Describe about austenitic stainless steels, Mechanical Engineering

Assignment Help:

Q. Describe about Austenitic stainless steels?

Austenitic stainless steels (300 series) generally exhibit very good corrosion resistance in sulphuric acid service for low concentrations, (dilute acid < 10%) and very high concentrations (> 85%) for temperatures up to 100 °F (38°C). Improved corrosion resistance is offered by the stainless grades having higher chromium and/or higher molybdenum contents, as well as Cu, N, and Ni, e.g. (904L), particularly for the low concentration range. For further improved corrosion resistance, Alloy 20 or possibly some of the other corrosion resistant nickel based alloys should be considered. Refer to the "Nickel" section for further information.
