The ALU, or the arithmetic and logic unit is the part of the processor that is occupied with executing operations of an arithmetic or logical nature. It works in conjunction by means of the register array for many of these, in specific, the accumulator and flag registers. The accumulator holds the results of operations, while the flag register includes a number of individual bits that are used to store information about the last process carried out by the ALU.
More on these registers can be establish in the register array section.
You can look at the ALU as comprising many subcomponents for each particular task that it is required to perform.
