Use written channels when :

i) your message is fairly detailed

ii) you don't need an immediate response

iii) you need permanent, written record.

iv) You have a big, widespread audience

v) You want to minimize the distortion that often occurs when messages are passed orally from person to person.

vi) You don't need immediate interaction with your audience.
