Peroxisomes and Glyoxisomes
A number of metabolic reactions, such as, the oxidation of amino acids and lipids result in the production of hydrogen peroxide. As hydrogen peroxide is extremely toxic to the cell, such oxidative reactions are confined within the cell to small membrane bound organelles called the peroxisomes.
