Creb binding protein (CBP) is a histone acetyl transferase (HAT) protein. What role does the addition of acetyl groups to histones play during development?
A. The addition of acetyl groups enhances the negative charge on histone core proteins and this leads to the de-condensation of DNA during the cell cycle and to enhance in transcription levels.
B. Acteyl groups enhance the positive charge on histones and therefore promote the condensation of chromosomes during the cell cycle.
C. The charge on histones proteins is unchanged by the addition of acetyl groups thus the condensation states of the chromosome and the level of transcription is unaffected.
D. Acetyl groups enhance the hydrophobicity of the histone thereby causing DNA condensation.
