Define the Alternate Depths

In open channels, two alternate depths of flow have the same energy for the same flow rate. As shown in the figure, the hyperbolic plot of energy (x-axis) vs. depth (y-axis) shows one lower depth of flow (d1) has the same energy as a higher depth of flow (d2).
