Define Requirements of Vitamins and Minerals during Surgery?

Normal tissue stores of vitamins are required for the metabolism of carbohydrates and protein. Deficiency states like anaemia should be treated before a surgery, water and electrolyte balance should be maintained and dehydration, acidosis or alkalosis, if present, must be corrected. Inclusion of appropriate (disease specific) fresh fruits and vegetables, if on an oral intake selection of an appropriate enteral/parenteral formula can help in alleviating specific nutrient deficiencies.
