Define reagent required and methodology for Barfoed Test?
Reagents
- Solutions of glucose, fructose, galactose, lactose, maltose, sucrose and starch
- Barfoed's reagent (copper acetate in glacial acetic acid)
Methodology
Take 5 ml of glucose solution and add 6-10 drops of Barfoed's reagent. Boil for about 1 minute. Observe carefully. Repeat this test taking other carbohydrates.
