Platyhelminthes - Larval Stages of Fasciola Hepatica and Taenia Solium?

You have already studied the representative species of classes Turbellaria, Trematoda and Cestoda of Phylum platyhelminthes.  In this laboratory exercise you will study permanent slides of larval  forms of the  liver fluke, Fasciola  hepatica and  the human  tapeworm Taenia  solium,  both of which have complimented  life cycles with  unusual  larval stages .

Objectives

After performing this exercise you will be able to:

  • Identify, describe and draw labelled diagrams of the larval stages - miracidium, sporocyst, redia, cercaria, metacercaria of Fasciola hepatica.
  • Identify, describe and draw labelled diagrams of the larval stage cysticercus larva of Taenia solium.
