Q. Define Pacinian corpuscules?
Pacinian corpuscules are an example of sensory receptors scattered deep in the subcutaneous tissue underlying skin or in viscera. These mechanoreceptors are stimulated by deep pressure and vibration. Can form very large structures almost 2mm in size, and visible to the naked eye.
Seen in longitudinal section, the Pacinian corpuscle resembles a cut onion, its single dendrite is surrounded by up to 60 layers of flattened Schwann cells wrapped in a connective tissue capsule.
Note: Proprioreceptors are located in skeletal muscles, tendons, and joints. They respond mainly to stretch and constantly send signals to CNS concerning body movement and posture.
