Define Observation or Inference for fehling's test?
An insoluble reddish brown precipitate of cuprous oxide will be obtained. The reddish brown precipitate indicates the presence of a reducing sugar. All monosaccharides are reducing sugars and give a positive Fehling's test.
Note- Sometimes you may see some yellow or greenish coloured precipitate.
Maltose and lactose have a free aldehydes group due to which they are capable of reducing Fehling's solution.
Sucrose does not possess any free sugar group since the aldehyde group of glucose molecule and the ketone group of fructose molecule are tied up in a glycosidic linkage. Hence, there is no free sugar group available for enediol formation and sucrose cannot reduce metallic ions.
Starch is made up of several glucose units linked by a-1,4 glycosidic linkages in straight chains and branched through -1,6 glycosidic linkages . Thus, it has very few free sugar groups and is not capable of reducing cupric ions in Fehling's reagent.
Dextrin is the intermediate product of starch hydrolysis and is a less complex molecule. Thus, it possesses more free sugar groups than starch and can partially reduce Fehling's reagent.
The cytoskeleton is a network of very little tubules and filaments spread throughout the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells. It is made of microtubules, microfilaments and intermediate
Hydrophilic and some lipophilic hormones bind to cell surface receptors. These are necessary membrane proteins located in the plasma membrane which bind the signaling mol
Explain Leaf Primordia ? In contrast to the root, which produces branches from meristematic tissue called the pericycle, shoots have areas of meristematic tissues called nodes
Cyanobacteria carry out photosynthesis using two photosystems as in green plants. Furthermore, other photosynthetic bacteria, like as the purple photosynthetic bacterium Rhodospiri
Meningocele In this the meninges protrude through the opening in the vertebrae generally in the lower back. The sac contains meninges and cerebrospinal fluid. The sac may
What is the term for the pattern of base pairing between one DNA strand and its partner in a duplex?
Intracellular Digestion We all know that unicellular organisms do not have a separate alimentary canal system. All the functions of life are carried out inside a single cell.
Plants of the open water zone In this zone plants are restricted to the limnetic one and generally consist of phytoplankton such as dinoflagellates, blue green algae and green
Degradation of Ecosystem Ancient man was simple-minded food gatherer and hunter. He looked upon nature with awe and respect and in fact he worshipped it. But from the time he
