Define Methods of Quantitative Analysis and Colorimetry?
Many methods of quantitative analysis are based upon the production of coloured solutions in such a way that the intensity or depth of colour so obtained may be used as a measure of concentration of substance being determined. Such use of colour as an index of concentration is the science of colorimetry or colorimetric analysis and the instrument used for colour evaluation is called colorimeter.
The concentration of a coloured substance in solution can be estimated by comparing visually the intensity of its colour with that of several standard solutions of known concentration. The colour intensity may be established in terms of the degree of light absorption at specific region or wavelength in the visible spectrum.
