Define Essentiality of Nitrogen for Growth of Micro-Organism?

Nitrogen is an essential atom in certain cellular macromolecules, e.g. amino acids, purines, pyrimidines, enzymes, cofactors etc. Some microbes use atmospheric nitrogen, while others rely on inorganic nitrogen compounds as nitrate or ammonium salts. Still some others can use only organic compounds like amino acids.
