Define effect of Protein excess during pregnancy period?

It is not advisable to recommend protein supplements. Reports in the literature indicate that high-protein supplements were associated with increased incidence of prematurity and excessive neonatal deaths. Analysis of supplementation studies in human populations suggests that supplements providing more than 20% of the calories from protein are associated with retarded foetal growth. Apart from proteins and non-nitrogenous sources of energy, several vitamins, minerals and trace elements have been found to play a critical role in the progression and outcome of pregnancy.
