You must be familiar with a proverb frequently used in the field of economics, which says - "resources are limited and wants are unlimited". This can be applied to the area of programme planning also for alleviating malnutrition. Shortage of resources is constantly faced by programme planners where they try to make the best use of the limited resources using it for the programmes which will yield the best results. Taking into consideration the scarcity of resources, especially in developing countries, it becomes important for the decision makers to strike the most favourable balance between the health benefits achieved and the cost incurred.
