It is the proper biological use of food, requiring a diet providing sufficient energy and essential nutrients, potable water and adequate sanitation. Effective food utilization is directly influenced by dietary patterns and preferences, nutrition knowledge and caring practices at the community, household and individual level, Intra-household distribution of food is determined by gender and age preferences and adversely influences access to food by women and children.
