CAD is used in design and development of new products in a diversity of applications both at commercial/industrial and on a home basis. Illustrations of typical CAD applications comprise:

- Construction (for example roads, services, surveying, tunnels, bridges etc.)

- Consumer goods (e.g. kettles, toasters, etc.)
