Define Biodiversity and ecosystem stability?

Human's have transformed ecosystems all through the world, frequently replacing diverse natural ecosystems with ecosystems which are species-poor. How are these managed ecosystems likely to carry out in the long term when assailed by natural disturbances and further human modifications? Because experiments are limited in both spatial and temporal scales, mathematical models are essential to understanding the role of biodiversity in the stability of natural and human-dominated ecosystems.
