By now you would have a good understanding that nutrient requirements are affected by a number of factors and in order to have adequate nutrient intakes these factors have to be take; into consideration for different population groups. You will recall that earlier we defined positive health as not merely freedom from diseases but a state of complete physical and mental health. In a similar manner, nutrient requirements should be such as to promote optimum health rather than merely to prevent nutritional deficiency disease. There are differences in the level of requirements, for prevention of deficiency diseases v/s promotion of positive health.
