Atherosclerosis is one of the most important causes of morbidity and mortality in developed as well as in developing countries. Atherogenesis occurs over a period of many years. Growth of atherosclerotic plaques will cause narrowing of the lumen of the artery and reduce the blood flow to the area it is supposed to supply.
