Define age related changes in Cardiovascular system

There is a decrease in elasticity of the aorta and other large arteries as age increases. Thickness of blood vessels increases leading to a rise in blood pressure. The myocardium (muscle wall of the heart) shows atrophy. There are structural changes in the valves. Number of pacemaker cells gets reduced, thereby a reduction in heart rate is observed.
