Define Advantages of Using the Plate Counts Method?

1. It is simple and sensitive method.

2. It provides viable count as only live cells will grow and produce the colony.

3. Even very few cells in a sample can be counted.

4. It allows isolation of discrete colonies which can be sub-cultured to achieve pure culture.

5. Even a particular cell type in a mixed population can be counted by using specific culture media and growth conditions.
