Define about Skeletal system
Skeletal system provides framework to the body; supports the soft tissues; protects delicate organs.
The skeletal system is made up of bones and cartilages of various types. Bone is a hard connective tissue, where the ground substance is very hard, containing calcium salts. Cartilage is a firm and elastic skeletal connective tissue. The best example of cartilage in our body is the bony structure we can feel in our ear, nose etc. Bone and cartilages help individuals to sit, walk and run. They also provide protection to the vital organs like brain, eyes and heart and also act as the reservoir of many minerals like calcium and phosphates. The formation of blood (Haemopoesis) takes place in the bone marrow of long bones. There are long, short, flat and irregular bones in the body. Human skeleton consists of 206 bones.
