Cycloalkenes can be simply acquired by Diels-Alder reaction. These compounds go through the electrophilic addition reactions that are characteristic of alkenes, when the ring remains intact. Cycloalkenes decolourise the purple in colour of dilute cold KMnO₄ or red colour of bromine in carbon tetrachloride.
