Q. Crystal Field Splitting in Octahedral Complexes?

Let us consider an octahedral complex, ML6, where M is a metal ion and L stands for a ligand. The total charge on the complex and the oxidation state of the metal ion are omitted since they would not make any difference in our result. The complex can be represented as shown in Fig.
