Cross sectional area to be excavate for roadway construction, Civil Engineering

Assignment Help:

The Table provides the cross-sectional areas to be excavated for the roadway construction. The volume of earth to be excavated (yd3) between section 83+65.6 and 85+98.5 is most nearly:

Solution:

Distance between the stations is: 83+65.6 and 85+98.5 = 232.9-ft

 By definition, use the Prismoidal formula when the two end areas differ significantly (in this case, the two end areas differ by more than 20%) it also provides the more precise calculation when compared against the average end area:

Volume = 232.9 [3287 + (4) (3956) + 4180] ÷ [(6)(27)= 33,484-yd3
