Q. What are the commented carbides? How are they processed?

Ans. These are very important products of powder metallurgy and finds wide applications as cutting tools, wire drawing dies and deep drawing dies. Carbides of tungsten, Titanium, Molybdenum and tantalum are generally used for cutting point tools all these metaes have very high meeting points. The actual properties various carbides depend upon its applications.

Manufacturing process

  (1) Production of metal powders

  (2) Blending mixing of powders

  (3) Compacting of metal powders

  (4) Presintering

  (5) Sintering

  (6) Secondary and finishing operations.
