In case of for unreinforced concrete carriageway, what will succession of closing and opening of expansion joints and contraction joints?


Answer

Take a case to illustrate sequence of closing and opening of joints. For example, an unreinforced concrete carriageway is constructed in winter. While temperature rises in following summer, section between expansion joints will expand as an entire single element resulting in closure of expansion joints. This part of concrete pavement will move away from mid-point between expansion joints.
