The citric acid cycle, also known as tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle, lies at the heart of aerobic metabolism. it is involved in the breakdown of all three major food groups; Carbohydrates, Lipids and Proteins. The animation exemplifies the centrality of the TCA cycle.
