Cellular evaluation of blood test

 Full blood count (or "complete blood count")

 Hematocrit or packed cell volume (PCV) - This is the fraction of whole blood volume that consists of red blood cells.

 MCV - Mean corpuscular volume: The average volume of the red cells, measured in  femtolitres. Anemia is classified as microcytic or macrocytic based on whether this value is above or below the expected normal range. Other conditions that can affect MCV include thalassemia and reticulocytosis.

 Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR)

 Cross-matching. Determination of blood type for blood transfusion or transplants

 Blood cultures are commonly taken if infection is suspected. Positive cultures and resulting sensitivity results are often useful in guiding medical treatment.
