Caribbean cycle, History

Assignment Help:

I am studying for a world history exam, and trying to do some "IDs" - basically defining key terms. One that I don't totally understand is the "Caribbean Cycle". Can someone help explain what exactly that is, and why it's important in world history? Thanks!
