Can lighting optic fiber to be spliced or joined?
All fibers can be spliced along with difficulty and more or less success. The problem is the losses resulting from that a joint. Fiber splicing is a general practice in the telecommunications industry whether it is done with sophisticated alignment apparatus and a substantial dose of skill. These days there are splicing systems for polymer light guides by using particularly fittings and a refraction index equalizing gel able of low price splices along with minimal losses. Within glass fibers where one would have to individually splice hundreds or even thousands of single fibers but splicing is not resolved even. Solid core fibers can be joined along with greater ease although the losses are massive; up to 25 percent of the available light.
