Business  information  processing  is  the  biggest  single  software  application  area.

Discrete "systems" (e.g., payroll accounts receivable/payable inventory, etc.,) have developed into management information system (MIS) software that accesses one or more large databases including business information. Applications in this field restructure existing data in a way that supports business operation or management decision making. In addition to this conventional data processing applications, business software applications also include interactive and client/server computing (for e.g., point-of- scale transaction processing)
