Before installing a bolt, stud or nut, threads shall be examined to ensure that there are no incompletely cut threads in the engagement zone (both internal and external) or burns, nicks, and metallic slivers that can cause jamming.
All threads, mating bearing surfaces of the nut (bolt head) which require cleaning shall be cleaned with a stainless steel wire brush.
Molybdenum or Nickel based anti-seize compound lubricants shall be applied thoroughly to all threads and nut bearing surfaces.
Internal threads may be lubricated with a bristle brush small enough to be inserted into the nut.
