The Battle of New Orleans was a battle fought after the Treaty of Ghent was signed in Europe effectively ending the War of 1812. Because of the lack of speedy communication neither side knew the treaty had been signed so the to them they were still at war. The Americans were heavy underdogs but they would have very little loss while the British would have nearly 2000 men either wounded or dead. The War of 1812 resulted in neither side gaining any ground in what each side wanted and the Battle of New Orleans was fought after the war was over but it gave Americans something to stand behind.
