Altered Protein Metabolism - Metabolic Response to Injury?

Urinary nitrogen loss is extensive following injury, Trauma accelerates nitrogen turnover. In unfed patients, tissue breakdown riles exceed synthesis and a negative balance occurs. Providing exogenous calories and increase in nitrogen synthesis and thus helps in restoring the nitrogen balance.
