  1. To determine what parts are to be manufactured and what parts to be purchased from outside.

  3. To determine the sequence of operations to be performed on each component.

  5. To prepare material list for all components of product to initiate the purchasing of raw materials.
  6. To determine select and initiate the order for purchasing the equipments machine tools needed to manufacture the product.
  7. To determine the tooling and gauges needed to manufacture the parts.
  8. To determine the stages of inspection and inspection devices required.
  9. To determine the kind of labour required to do the job.
  10. To determine the time standards of performance of the job.
  11. To provide estimates of the cost of tooling and equipment needed to manufacture new products for the purpose of quotations.
  12. To determine part changes necessary to ease manufacture or reduce cost.
  13. To assist the product engineer in the design of the product that will be feasible and economical to make.
