What are advantages of using UML?

As the name suggests the UNIFIED MODELING LANGUAGE, The Modeling has been around for years, not only in the software field but also in other trades like, mechanical civil etc. For example in civil engineering drawing the main architecture built of a diagram is a model by itself. The Modelling makes complex and huge system to break up into simple and discrete parts that can be individually understood. For example a simple flowchart drawing is modeling.

There are two main merits of modeling:-

1) Readability: - Representing your entire architecture in class diagrams, flowchart, ER diagrams etc make your project more readable. Especially when programmers modify jobs handover becomes simpler. More the project is not readable more the dependencies.

2) Reusability: - After the system is more readable & broken down to small parts, it becomes easier to identify the redundant and same modules. And hence increasing reusability.
