A simple balance

Suspend a ruler by loops of cord a short distance above a table top, as shown in the diagram. When the ruler is in balance, place identical coins in dissimilar positions on each side of the fulcrum so that the ruler balances again. Using the simpler mixture of numbers of coins and distances from the fulcrum, develop an elementary thoughtful of the principle of moments.
