Question
The field of the Fitness Professional includes many different titles, specialties, certifying agencies, industry organizations, and a significant research and practice knowledge base to support the work that we all do. However, if you remember, this profession is not licensed, which can open the door to all sorts of abuse/fraud. For this last discussion, please address the following:
Describe your ideal education and credential that you think would qualify you to work with the population (specialty) you hope to build your business/career around and why.
Then choose an area of research and/or ethical/legal issue that you would like to see addressed and why. For example, should a personal trainer without sufficient education, credentialing, training, and experience be able to work with a senior adult who has several CVD risk factors, type 2 diabetes, one (or more) joint replacements, and takes 5 or more prescription medications?
