You performed these reactions in an acidic solution (diluting with 0.1M HNO3). This is because iron forms an insoluble hydroxide ion (i.e. even in slightly acidic solutions). If the precipitate that forms is Fe(OH)3(s) write the chemical reaction (molecular and full ionic)for the formation of this material starting with Fe(NO3)3 in aqueous solution. What effect, if any, would you predict using water in place of 0.1M HNO3 have on the absorbance of this solution at 450 nm for test tube # 10?
