Excellent post Yesenia Through my work in sexual and reproductive health, I work in communities that are vastly different, and different methods must be utilized for community engagement and community mobilization regarding public health issues. We utilized several different methods to engage the community such as community action groups. This enables us to have the thoughts and perspectives of active community members as we implement programs. Public health professionals working in communities must be aware and well-versed in the communities they work in. I do agree communities must be involved to promote improved health outcomes. We also utilize community surveys to hear directly from community members about what issues they feel should be the priority in their community. We can then assist with tailoring our work to address them. What thoughts do you have regarding barriers related to community engagement in public health?
