This week you have an assignment on writing SOP. What is an SOP? In the workplace we use all types of standards or guidelines in how to complete job. An SOP is the "Standard Operating Procedure" that you want the employee to follow when completing job. For instance, in a factory, there will be step-by-step instructions (or SOP) on how to run a machine, or how to complete certain process, in the factory every step has to be exactly the same so the product comes out perfectly and passes quality control before being shipped/sold to the customer.

In healthcare we use SOPs for many types of processes; for example, how to transfer a telephone call, how to make a copy, how to use the scanning component on the multi-function office equipment. We use SOPs on how to enter notes into the patient chart and SOPs on how to room a patient.

In this assignment, you are to write an SOP that would be used in an office, it can be any type of office (not specific to healthcare). If you have healthcare experience and want to write SOP based on a workflow in healthcare, please feel free.

Here are some rules:

your SOP should be very detailed, do not skip a step
anyone should be able to read the SOP and complete the task
you may use pictures or snips to guide the individual in using the SOP, however, it is not necessary.
your SOP does not need to be multiple pages unless it needs to cover many steps of the process
