Application Activity

Select three cell phone plans from any of the major carriers (eg: AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, Cricket, etc.).You must choose plans that do not have unlimited values for talk, text, etc. Using that information, create a word document to answer the following questions:

ATT: 1000 minutes a month for $50, $.02/minute overage charge

Verizon: 800 minutes a month for $45, $.05/minute overage charge

Spring: 700 minutes a month for $30, $.03/minute overage charge

1. Create a chart (graph or plot) that has the following information for each of the three selected carriers: cost per month, base number of minutes, additional cost per minute (overage).

2. Using the information from the chart you created, write the total monthly cost, C, in terms of m minutes for each of the three carriers.

3. Select two of the three identified plans and calculate how many minutes it will take for the cost of the two plans to be the same. Show all work.

4. Now compare all three plans and determine if one plan is a better deal than the other two. Support your answer mathematically.

5. Which plan would you choose and why? Support your answer mathematically.
