Need you to write the report as the 'Employee Relations Officer' for South Western Railway (SWR) for your senior managers The assignment is divided into 5 sections. Below are what you should write about in each section.
1-Provide some information about the background to the dispute and reflect on the collective bargaining meeting that you had with the RMT (Rail Maritime & Transport Union) (The role play we did in class) I attached a document for the discussion summary.
2- Review the alternative methods of conflict resolution. These are arbitration, conciliation and mediation. When a third party joins the meeting and help the management and union resolve differences. What is the best alternative method of conflict resolution for SWR and the RMT to use for the future.
3-This section is about discipline and grievance (D&G) situations and potential D&G situations that might arise in the situation between SWR & RMT.
4-This section is about how SWR can make sure that they do not end up in a court (employment tribunal) make sure that the managers understand the processes and how to behave. What are the disadvantages of going to an employment tribunal.
5-This is the section on recommendations - what can SWR do to ensure that the employees are motivated and engaged in the future and that they have a good working relationship with RMT.
