Case: In journal entries above, Lewis is intent on describing the journey, what he sees, and the interaction with the expedition members. Imagine the journal entries other members of the expedition might write. Your job is to write THREE journal entries of your own from the point of view of one of the other expedition members. You could write as Captain Clark, Sacagewea, or any other (unnamed) member.
Use details and information from Lewis's journal entries to help write the narrative extended constructed-response.
For example:
September 20th - We were eating the last of our horse meat for breakfast when Lewis's packhorse went missing. He was busy looking at some blue bird and didn't notice that the horse was gone. It had all of Lewis's winter clothes, so now he's going to have to borrow clothes from the rest of us or freeze to death. Lewis also gave us something that looked like a cherry and had us try it. It was kind of sweet, but now my stomach hurts. Food is running low. We need to get out of the mountains.
Now you give it a shot. Remember, your job is to write THREE journal entries of your own from the point of view of one of the other expedition members. This is considered a summative writing assessment, so make sure to:
Establish a point-of-view
Use description or sensory language to convey a vivid picture of events
Integrate ideas and details from the source material (Lewis's journals)
