Barbara has decided not to have the operation, despite the optimism of the surgical team. Her family members are willing to let her do as she wishes. However, the specialist is urging the operation. Barbara is very nervous and asks one of her carers, Alice, to stay while she talks with the surgeon and to help her put forward her point of view.
