Problem- The technique of pyrometallurgy reduces pure metal from its ore by using heat and a reductant. For an oxide ore, the typical reductant is a substance called coke, which is mostly pure carbon. The byproduct of the reaction is carbon monoxide.

Write the balanced equation for the overall process when magnetite, Fe3O4 , is heated with coke, C , in a blast furnace. Do not include phases or heat.
