Case: River Rafting is a summer outdoor recreation activity. It is also a thrilling experience that I think everyone should try. I did my whitewater rafting with my family down a river in Breckenridge, Colorado.

The most important thing about river rafting is listening to your guide. This person will be guiding you down the river safety and have lots of fun. They are the ones that are trained and certified and they also know the river very well. They will teach you how to use the paddles and work together as a team on the intense parts of the river. If you have just 2 or 3 in your group, then you may be placed with other people in order to fill the raft. Our family had 6 in the group, so we had our own raft. An important item that you will need is sunglasses. They will protect your eyes against the glare off of the water. The other items that you will need are water shoes and swimming suits or athletic shorts. It is not recommended to wear flip-flops because they will fall off of your feet or cotton clothing because it holds in water keeping you cold. The river rafting location will also offer wetsuits to keep you warm. I would highly recommend the wetsuits especially earlier in the season due to the water still being cold. When we went on our water rafting trip the weather was warm, calm, perfect day but we rented wetsuits anyway. Everyone else on the bus to the river did not rent wetsuits and looked at our family like we were the weird ones because the weather was so nice. Interesting enough about half way through our trip the water got cold and it rained for just a little while. Everyone decided our family were the smart ones since we were not cold but everyone else on the bus was freezing. Just a tip! There are several whitewater rafting locations in Colorado. Some locations are the Blue River at Breckenridge Outpost, Arkansas River at Granite Outpost, Clear Creak River at Idaho Springs Outpost, or the Colorado River at Kremmling Outpost. There are few different options for the costs of the trip. For a half day trip, it would cost about $79 person and for a full day trip, it would cost about $135 per person. This cost includes the helmet and life jacket. Each person will need water shoes (approx. $10) and a swimming suit (approx. $50). The total cost for each person for a half day would be approx. $139 and for a full day would be approx. $195. I would also recommend renting a wetsuit. Also, a swimming suit works well under a wetsuit, so it is not very bulky. After you have completed your river rafting trip, then you will want to change into dry clothing and bring a bag for your wet clothing.

River rafting was a great outdoor recreation experience as long as you follow a few simple rules and it will be worth the trip down the river.
