It is a given that the integration of the internet has made a significant impact on how society functions and the issues we face because if it. Many of the threats that we deal with are similar across the board, from viruses, man-in-the-middle attacks, phishing, and keylogging to name a few.
The capability that online account access provides is extremely convenient and is a driving factor in competitive consumerism. One critical vein in the big scheme of online capabilities is Electronic Banking or E-Banking. This capability has become available through most banks, but there is definitely concerns that arise because of the said threats. The lessons we need to learn from the onset of phishing and keylogging attacks on electronic banking is to remain vigilant by staying ahead of the cyber-criminal offense. This is easier said than done, and the reality of the matter is there will never be a perfect solution. The information hackers can gain from getting into your bank account can be detrimental to one's lifestyles. It is imperative that we as cyber security professionals take the necessary steps to avoid the vulnerabilities to the best of our ability and put security measures in place.
The best way to avoid attacks from hackers from keylogging is to ensure robust encryption and monitoring of the network. I do not believe that we need to rework recovery (which in its classic form explores how to rebuild databases from backup tapes) into resilience, but systems and networks should be evaluated in order to implement vulnerability fixes. The virus are being improved in their capabilities of deployment and effectiveness. Anti-virus vendors are working overtime in order to keep up their ability to be effective.
The Bible tells us in Ephesians 6:11 that we should, "Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes." This is very relevant to the stance we should be taking with the future of E-Banking and the threats that go along with it. Implementation of advanced encryption, system monitoring, and user training is critical to the future of online banking. IE
